3 Ways To Use The Kajabi Podcast Product...including How To Create A Private Members-Only Podcast

All things Kajabi podcast today! We're diving in because so fun that we can now create those just right inside Kajabi. And I have a few different ways that I think would be really useful to use that.

So first, I'm just going to start with some of my thoughts here on how you can leverage the Kajabi podcast feature, which is just now included in your Kajabi software at no extra charge. You can make a podcast product.

Your podcast hosted on Kajabi can be free, it can be paid, it can be private, or it can be public. We're going to talk about all of those options. So fun. And then there might be questions, too, that we'll answer.

When I saw that Kajabi was now offering podcasts, I was really excited. Two reasons.

One, because podcasts are a fantastic way to talk about your brand and to have more exposure to your dream clients, of course.

But also because it is such a value add to your membership or program, if you already have one of those created. And that's not for everybody and everybody isn't always going to do that, but I do love me a membership, and I do love a program.

What I am envisioning, and what I'm going to be doing is creating a private podcast for my program, Your Next 1K, where all of my members will just automatically have this added to their dashboard and into their podcast feed, wherever they listen to podcasts. Again, we'll talk about how this works in a second. But basically what they're going to have is a podcast version of all of our live coaching call replays to just listen to in podcast form.

Yes, they do already have the call recordings housed separately as part of the program, but I personally love listening to podcasts in a podcast app, and I don't often think to do. If I'm in the car or something, or if I'm out for a run, I don't typically think of opening up a paid program and go into those call recordings myself and having the full video pulled up.

I certainly could do that in programs I have and my members could do that too, but I think that it is so much more accessible and handy and top of mind if it's in the podcast app where you're already listening to podcasts.

So now we can do that in Kajabi at no extra charge, the possibilities are endless, but it is just part of what you pay for with the platform and everything all in one. And as we know, Kajabi likes to make things easier for us and make us make more money and create a fabulous user experience for our customers, which is the name of the game.

Now inside the main dashboard in your Kajabi account, you have under products, you have podcasts as a product type. I'm sure at some point in the future that will change. Since podcasts just launched, it's very prominently right there. Maybe that'll just be in all products later. I don't know. So depending on when you watch this video, that could be different.

NOTE: You can get an up-to-date step by step tutorial with video on setting up your Kajabi podcast product on this page in the Kajabi Blog

But for now, it is in its own little special spot right there as product. And to do this product creation for your podcast, what you need to do is either import a podcast you already have, and house it in Kajabi, which is cool.

If you have a public podcast already, this is really cool. And actually, I'm going to stop sharing my screen for just a second while I talk about this, because I need to, I realize, give a little more context.

Okay. So before we dive in, I'm getting ahead of myself.

There's public podcasts, there are paid slash private podcasts. So the difference being, obviously, one of them is just free for anybody to listen to at any time in any of the podcast apps, like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, whatever, Stitcher or wherever people are listening to podcasts.

A public podcast will be searchable, and they'll be able to find it, listen to it. Anybody, any stranger from the internet can find that.

A paid podcast would be only for paid subscribers, which is a relatively new feature. I've thought about this several times about like, "That's a really kind of a cool membership concept as well, having a paid podcast where people have to pay to have access to." But I believe it's been a little bit cumbersome to put the technology of that together to remove people when they stop paying their membership and to add them.

And as you can imagine, that is a little bit of a tech roadblock for people who want to charge separately for premium podcast content.

However, now in Kajabi you can easily create a paid or private podcast. We know that it's super easy to just automate distribution of private or paid podcasts because all of the payments and automations take place right in Kajabi.

So, if that was the route you were going to go with a paid podcast and people were paying for the podcast, then as soon as they stop paying, Kajabi would automatically stop sending the feed to their podcast apps.

They wouldn't have it anymore. They wouldn't see it. When they pull up Apple Podcasts, they wouldn't see that paid podcast in there anymore because they're not paying. And you, as the creator, wouldn't have any headaches around adding people, removing people, any of that, because it would just all happen like magic in Kajabi when you set up the offer.

*And the angels sang.*

But the third option, which is like a hybrid, is what I'm going to be showing you, which is a private podcast, but not necessarily one that you're having people pay for extra.

So this would be, like I said, a value add to your existing clients or members of your program or your membership where you are just giving them a better way to consume the content that they already have paid for but they're not necessarily subscribing to it separately.

Remember, these are two different types: public podcasts for everybody anywhere, or private podcasts, whether that's paid or as an addition to what they're already getting from you and have already paid for.

It doesn't matter. You can set that up either way, I guess is what I'm saying. But they wouldn't have access to the podcast if they were not paying or had already paid, as you will have set up inside the Kajabi platform in your offer.

So you get to decide who gets access to the podcast and who doesn't, and then Kajabi will automatically add that feed to wherever they're already listening to podcasts. (Whether that's in the Apple Podcast app, or Stitcher, or Spotify, or Google, or wherever they're listening to podcasts.) Kajabi will magically send it to their feed or take it out of their feed if they're not paying any more. Hopefully that makes sense.

Okay. So now let's do our screen share. Okay, cool. So here in the Kajabi dashboard, like I said, now we have our little podcast spot here. So you can either import a podcast that you already have, which would be cool because it is an added cost to host your podcast somewhere else.

So if you already had one, you may decide that you want to import your podcast from your current host to be hosted in Kajabi so that you aren't paying extra for that. In which case you could do import a podcast, and it's really simple, and Kajabi will import that feed for you so you can manage it here.

Or you get started, and then this is where you decide, is it going to be a public podcast, or a private podcast? Which is what we just discussed. Public is going to be free, and anybody will be able to find it. Private is going to be paid and managed by people that you decide in your offers. Okay.

I had been thinking for quite a long time about private podcasting, and it was this hard thing that I just didn't want to take the time, honestly, to figure out the tech of how to provide a private podcast to my members inside Your Next 1K.

So it was kind of on the back burner, and I was not prioritizing it by any means. But now it's so super easy, I'm fast tracking that project and I'm really excited about it.

[Showing screenshare of setting up new podcast in Kajabi dashboard] I'm choosing private podcasts. Again, you can see it, you're going to put in your title. This is all editable later. Hosted by you.

You can do a quick description, which becomes more important if it's a free podcast and people are going to be discovering that by searching inside their podcast apps, like Apple Podcasts, or inside Spotify, or whatever that is. This description is much more important. And if you're hosting a podcast, you know that. But for our purposes, not really a big deal. I'm going to not worry about describing it because my members will already know what that is. I'm just picking a random picture here because it does make you choose a thumbnail before you get started. So you would want that to be a logo. And I'm going to just be showing you a mock up version here of what I'm doing. So let's not worry about any of those specifics. Demo private podcast hosted by me. And obviously, that's where you describe it.

Okay. You just see how easy this is? You get to decide, "Do you want to list this in episodic order?" Where it's going to show the newest one... Newest at the top, or if you're going to do it where you want people to listen in order like a series, like a Netflix series, where they start at season one and listen to all those, and then go to season two and season three. And you can change those too, but it's just a matter of where the new episodes will show, if they're going to be at the top or the bottom of the list. So you just decide.

Okay, mine's business and entrepreneurship. I like for a private podcast for it to be an episodic order, because that means that the newest, most recent coaching calls are going to go to the top. I think that, that definitely makes sense for this sort of an offer.

And there you go. Now, you are going to create your episodes. It's super easy for you guys to do this, right in Kajabi. You don't need to learn a new platform, you don't need to do anything to create, just an added bonus feature for your members here.

You can see, I've already been working on this. So I'm just using dates for my calls. This is how mine are getting populated. And then all you have to do is just upload an MP3 of the coaching calls. I already have MP4 recordings of our zoom calls, which are very simple to convert to MP3 audio-only files to get uploaded as the podcast episode.

This is it. Now you're just going to go through and do this for each coaching call replay that you want to put in there, any bonus content that you want to do. And then you'll be able to go in here.

You're going to add it to offers and copy the RSS feed link, so you can get it all linked up with the podcast apps and publish everything. Don't worry. Kajabi has all of the tutorials for how to do that. It's super simple. But you get to decide who gets access to it and automate that within Kajabi, so they will take care of distributing that feed and then taking back out any members who are no longer eligible to get the private podcast, such as when members cancel their membership.

But getting back to what I was saying about the coaching calls and how to do this, if you're using it like I am, where I'm giving recordings of content that I already have via video, then easy-peasy, you could put course content in here. You could do anything that your members need access to, that they could consume in audio version that would be helpful for them.

Again, I am just taking those Zoom recordings, taking the MP4s, which is the file type that the video, audio video like this comes up as and just changing it into MP3, which you just need a file converter to do that, and then it's audio only. Upload it to Kajabi, and you're good to go. So easy-peasy.

I think that, obviously, we know there's lots of uses for podcasts in our businesses, marketing wise and for all sorts of things. But I'm loving the very user-friendly, low barrier to entry, no extra cost way to leverage private podcast in a paid program or membership. Absolutely loving it.

Using Kajabi to grow your online business is an absolute no-brainer, which is why I have so much fun supporting my referrals and creating new trainings like this one to help you make more money and impact.
